SANCTUM

With Richard Roxburgh, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhys Wakefield, Allison Cratchley, Christopher Baker, Alice Parkinson

Written by John Garvin, Andrew Wight

Directed by Alister Grierson

Said to be based on true events, this Australian adventure-thriller blend has a cave diving expedition go horribly wrong after an intense tropical storm traps the explorers deep inside the uncharted cave system with limited resources and seemingly no way out. With the leads comprising of a feisty father heading the team, a son at odds with his dad and the wealthy but arrogant backer of the expedition, there is plenty of drama to milk from the situation, as death stares them and the other survivors in the face. A claustrophobic race for survival against nature and each other ensues.
To have James Cameron in your corner as executive producer is certainly a plus and the scale of the production is evident from this.
To a great extent, regrettably the female characters are portrayed as weak and somewhat useless as the men tough it out and show courage.
